Soft Skills 2022-23


1. Workshop on Resume Preparation


A well-prepared resume serves as a personal marketing tool show casing an individual's qualifications experiences and skill to potential employers. The Placement Cell of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organized a workshop on resume preparation on 15 and 16 December 2022. Mr. Alex Mathew, CEO and Trainer, T-Horizon, was the resource person. The resource person discussed about the importance of resume as a first contact of the employer and employee. A well crafted resume grabs attention and entices hiring managers to delve deeper into the employers seeking top talent. 122 students participated the session. Students were really enlightened by the discussions and they had a hands on training on the Resume preparation.

2. Class on the Importance of Aptitude Test

The placement cell of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organised a session on the Importance of Aptitude Test on 26 July 2022. Mr. Mohanan Valiathan, Director, (Academics) IBS and the former Assistant Manager at State Bank of India, was the resource person. The session was inaugurated by the college Principal. Aptitude test serving as reliable tool for the employers to access the candidate's cognitive abilities, problem solving skills and potential for success in various roles. 149 students participated the session. Students got a good chance of interpersonal interaction and understand about various aptitude tests in the international and national level entries in to the higher studies and employment.

3. Class on Personal Branding

In an Era defined by rapid developments and rapidly evolving professional landscapes, the significance of personal branding and soft skill has never been more pronounced. The career development cell of our institution aimed at fostering holistic professional growth of students and overall soft skill development.  A class on personal branding was conducted on 19 July 2022. Mr. Bimal Nair, Technology-enabled marketing expert and specialist in branding and positioning, was the resource person. 85 students from various disciplines participated.

Soft Skills 2021-22


1. Resume Buiding and Profiling

An interactive and insightful session on soft skill development was conducted to empower the students with an essential skills for crafting a compelling resume and building a strong professional profile. The training and placement cell organized a soft-skill development programme for the final year UG and PG students on 17 August 2021. Mr. Alex Mathew, Regional Manager and Chief Trainer, T-Horizon. The topic of the webinar was “Resume Building and Profiling”. Sixty-five students from the final year Arts, Science and Commerce departments attended the session in offline mode. The key topics discussed in the programme includes, understanding the anatomy of a resume, Effective storytelling, tailoring your resume for different roles, building an online presence, networking strategies etc. this programme was delivered through a combination of presentations, hands on activities and QA sessions. Participants were encouraged to create their resumes and gained confidence on presenting their skills and experience on the paper

2. Photography competition

A photography competition was conducted for the students of Mar Athanasius college (Autonomous) in accordance with the theme of 2021- Ecosystem conservation- Reimagine, Recreate, Restore on 01 to 05 June 2021. The students enthusiastically participated in the contest and a collage of the mesmerizing photo entries was made.

Soft Skills 2020-21

1. Student empowerment programme

Awareness session was organized by NSS volunteers of Mar Athanasius college, under the Fourth Wave Foundation Project VENDA. The class was via zoom app on 29-09-2020. Mrs. Shalini George , Ms. Namitha Johnson, Ms. Neenu Mathew, Mr. Roshan Kunjachan and Mr. Jijin lead the class. The volunteers got a very useful class on student empowerment.

2. Webinar on Current Issues and Prospects in Insurance

Two day webinar on ‘Current issues and Prospects in Insurance’ was organised on 8 and 9 September 2020. Ms. Mercy P M, Administrative officer, LIC and Mr. Manikandan S, General Manager, Actuarial Consultancy firm, Mumbai were the resource persons.

Soft Skills 2019-20

1. A leadership and soft skill development programme

A leadership and soft skill development programme, “Leadership in you”, held on 29-02-2020, focused on empowering individuals to become effective leaders honing crucial interpersonal skills. This comprehensives initiative was designed to foster a dynamic learning environment among students and can enhance their leadership qualities. Programme highlights were: Communication Mastery, Emotional intelligence enhancement, adaptive leadership, Team collaboration, and conflict resolution skills Development of active listening skills to understand and empower the students and enlighten the leadership in them. The session was led by Babu Sankar, Assistant professor, St. Joseph College of Engineering and Technology Pala.

Soft Skills 2018-19

1. Session on Personality Development- Orientation Programme for UG students.

The induction cell conducted a two-day orientation programme for first-year students on June 21st and 22nd, 2018 at the college indoor stadium. On the 21st, the orientation programme was conducted by Mr. George Pulikkan, a renowned author, television anchor, and motivational speaker he engaged a personality development session and empowered the UG students. The afternoon session of the same day was handled by Mr. Aji George, who is an established career trainer and counsellor. He focused on the psychology of the students and explained various stresses and pressures experienced by students at this age.

2. Personality and soft skill development

Walk with the Scholar (WWS) of our college works with the objective of helping and nurturing the inherent talent and future potential of the students by widening their areas of interest and inspiring them to aim high. “Personality and soft skill development” sessions are handled by various external mentors listed by the department of Higher Education Govt of Kerala. Rtd. Vice admiral M.P. Muralidharan handled half day session on the personality development and soft skill development and communication for the first- and second-year graduate students on 20-12-2018. In today’s dynamic and interconnected world, technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient for professional and personal success. This talk delivered on the importance of Personality and soft skill development in shaping individuals into well rounded, effective contributors to society. Soft skill, encompassing communication, team work, adaptability and emotional intelligence are the glue that binds technical knowledge together. The session emphasized the impact of a strong personality on carrier advancement and personal fulfilment. The talk helped the students to gain insights to practical’s strategies for honing their soft skills, fostering personal growth and positioning themselves for success in both professional and personal brands.

3. One day session was engaged on the topic “Time management and Leadership"

One day session was engaged on the topic “Time management and Leadership” by T.N.Jagadeeshkumar. This programme was meticulously designed to empower individuals with essential skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic and competitive professional world. As organisations increasingly recognise the pivot role of soft skills in fostering a productive and harmonious work environment, he discussed the key components of the time management and leadership modules, providing a comprehensive analysis of their impact on the professional development. He also discussed on the importance of Effective communication in career development, soft skills and personality development and problem solving.

Language and communication skills 2022-23 

1. Bhasha Varacharanam

Literary club and Debate club of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) jointly celebrated language week from 2 to 10 of November 2022. Language celebration week is an annual event dedicated to enrich the diversity of languages spoken worldwide. Our college conducted programmes aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation linguistic diversity and cultural richness, it helped the students to explore various languages both regional and international. The primary goal was to celebrate the beauty of language promotes cross cultural understanding and encourage language learning. In association with the programme we have conducted various programmes, Poetry writing competitions (2-11-22), story telling and writing (3-11-22), Elocution competition (7-11-22), Debate (8-11-22), Poetry recitation (9-11-22). More than 50 students participated in various items.

Language and communication skills 2021-22

1. Webinar on ‘Vayanayude samudrasancharangal’

The Literary Club of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), in connection with National Reader’s Day, under the financial assistance of Paramarsh Scheme, organised a webinar on the topic, “Vayanayude Samudrasancharam” ( Sea Voyages of Reading) on 19 June 2021.  Shri. Sajay K V, Speaker and literary critic was the resource person. 93 students participated the session. The event comprised engaging discussions on classic and contemporary literature, fostering an environment conductive to expressive communication. Students actively participated the session. The event concluded with a spirited debate on relevant social issues. This activity successfully fostered an environment that not only celebrated the literature but also facilitated the development of language and communication skills.

2. An interaction with Madhu Neelakantan

Department of English organised an interactive session with the famous writer, cinematographer and producer, Madhu Neelakantan on Monday 11 October 2021. He is the winner of Kerala state film award for Best cinematography. It was a platform for the literary and film enthusiasts to express their ideas and interact with the resource person, 66 students from various disciplines participated the session. Discussions enhanced the student’s language and communication skills by exposing them to diverse perspectives, storytelling techniques and creative expressions and deeper their understanding of visual and narrative elements.

3. Webinar on Art and Life

The cultural Forum of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organised a webinar on “Art and Life” on 30 September 2021. Dr. Devisree S., artist and writer, was the resource person. 68 students participated the programme.

Language and communication skills 2020-21

1. National Webinar on Hindi Literature

National Webinar on Hindi literature was organised on 25 September 2020. Dr. Jayasree Singh, VPM’s Joshi Bedeker Arts and Science College, Mumbai was the resource person. This session bring together scholars, educators and language enthusiasts to delve into critical aspects of language development and effective communication in Hindi. The seminar gave a platform that provides an opportunity to explore innovative strategies, shares insights and foster collaboration in the pursuit of advancing linguistic competence. Participants were encouraged to contribute research papers and share practical experiences related to the theme. Dr. Jayasree Singh, VPM’s Joshi Bedeker Arts and Science College, Mumbai was the resource person.more than 60 students participated the webinar.

2. Webinar on Vayana, Ezhuthu, Anubhavam

Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organized a webinar on the topic, “Vayana, Ezhuthu, Anubhavam” (“Reading, Writing, Experience”) under the financial assistance of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shikha Abhiyan (RUSA) on  27th  July 2020. Mr. Ajay P Mangattu, novelist, was the resource person.

1. Hindi day Celebration


On 14th of September , every year, India commemorates Hindi day with fervor and pride. This day holds significant importance as it marks the adoption Hindi as the official language of India. An Essay writing competition was conducted by the Department of Hindi in connection with Hindi day celebration on 17-9-2018 and a flash mob on the topic “ Hindi a medium to connect various cultures” was conducted by Hindi department on 19-9-2018.

2. Magazine Kalari

In a bid to nurture creativity and enhance the communication skills and amplify student voices, Mar Athanasius college Organised an enriching training programme on “Crafting and Launching a College Magazine” held on 16-1-2018. This seminar aimed to equip the students with the skills and knowledge necessary to conceptualize, write and publish a vibrant college magazine. The programme was engaged by the faculty from Dept of Hindi, English and Malayalam.

Life Skills 2022-23

1. How to Plan for Startups: Legal and Ethical Steps

The commerce department of the college has organised a workshop titled "How to Plan for Startups: Legal and Ethical Steps." on 12 April 2023.The workshop aimed to provide students with valuable insights into the planning process for startups, focusing on legal and ethical considerations. Mr. Jeswin Pallissery, an alumnus of the institution and the CEO of Sports Organic, delivered a presentation on planning for startups and the legal and ethical steps involved. 50 students participated the programme.

2. CPR Training

The NSS volunteers of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) conducted a CPR training programme in association with Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation on 07 March 2023. The volunteers practised CPR and trained to overcome emergencies.

3. Class on Menstrual Hygiene

Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) conducted a class on the topic “Let’s Learn About Menstrual Hygiene” in accordance with women’s day on 08 March 2023. Saumya Das, public health inspector, Kothamangalam was the resource person.

4. Seminar on Ayurveda and Health

The Nature club, Botany Department & The NSS Unit of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) jointly organized a talk on the topic “Rithubhetham Aaroghya Paristhithi”(Seasonal changes-Health –Environment) on 22 August 2022. Dr. G. Rajasekharan Nair, State coordinator, Ayurveda medical association of India, was the resource person.

5. G20 Segmented Multilateralism - Challenges and Prospects.

The Entrepreneurial Development Club of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), Kothamangalam organized a panel discussion on the topic of "G20 Segmented Multilateralism - Challenges and Prospects." on 19 May 2023. Panelists include Adv. Dr. Mathew Kuzhalnadan MLA - Discussed International Relations, Adv. Francis George - Discussed Role of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. S. Muraleedharan - Discussed Entrepreneurial Development, Moderator: Dr. Rajesh K - Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Management, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi.

6. Election for or against plastic

The students of Mar Athanasius college (Autonomous) organized an election for or against plastic in campus on 15 July 2022.

7. Paper Bag Making Campaign

On November 11th 2022, the Entrepreneurship Development Club of MA College organized a paper bag making campaign at the Mar Athanasius International School in connection with National Education Day. The campaign aimed to promote sustainability and entrepreneurship among the students.

8. Mental Health Awareness Talk

NSS unit of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) in association with Kerala State Youth Welfare Board organized a mental health awareness programme on 11 August 2022. The talk was on the topic “Are You Normal?. Dr Titus Lassar, Department of Psychology, Indira Gandhi College Kothamangalam and Campus student Psychologist was the resource person.

9. International Yoga Day

The students of Mar Athanasius college (Autonomous) including NSS and NCC volunteers of participated in international yoga day on 21 June 2022.

10. Training on cloth banner making

The nature cub of Mar Athanasius college (Autonomous) organized a training for the students on cloth banner making 27 August 2022.

11. Micro irrigation and plastic mulching

The NSS unit of Mar Athanasius College and Mar Athanasius College of Engineering jointly organized a talk on Micro Irrigation and Plastic Mulching- an effective technique for organic farming on 17 November 2022. A talk and demo was led by Ignatious A Mendez (Agri Engineer, Back 2 Farm Pvt. Ltd. And his team. The technique proved a great success in ‘Vilavu’ – Organic farming.31 students participated the programme.

1. Lecture on Advanced Microscopy

On National Science Day a lecture on the topic ‘Advanced Microscopy’ was organized by the National Academy of Sciences India (NAIS), PRAYAGRAJ (Kerala Chapter) in association with department of Biotechnology on 28 February 2023. The key speaker for the program was Dr. Unnikrishnan Sivan, DHR- NRI fellow, Department of Biotechnology, CUSAT.

2. The inaugural ceremony of the Astronomy Club

The inaugural ceremony of the Astronomy Club was organized by the Department of Physics on 22 February 2023. Dr. N. Shaji Adjunct Faculty of Department of Physics, CUSAT inaugurated the Club. 73 Students participated the inaugural ceremony.

3. MAC Bio-Scientia July 2022

MAC Bio-Scientia was organised by the Departments of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry in a hybrid mode on 13/7/22, to create an awareness in recent trends in Biosciences. Project presentation competitions were conducted and the lectures delivered by Dr. Anu Yamuna Joseph (Primordia Life Science, Cochin) and Dr. Vishnu K. V (Project Scientist B, CMLRE, Cochin). Aryananda R, MES College, Marampally secured the first prize, Ann Mary Sebastian secured the second prize and Anuja Joy and Dona Shaji shared third prize in the competitions.

4. Explicandum 2K22 -5 November 2022

Explicandum 2K22, was organised by the Departments of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry aimed at raising awareness in the trends and technology in Biosciences. Exhibition booths were set up to showcase cutting edge technologies and breakthrough in Bioscience, Displays include gene editing, Synthetic Biology and Bioinformatics Advances in the Biosciences on 05/11/22 (9.30 A.M to 2.00 P M). One hundred and four participants participated. Hands on training was given on specialised areas in Micro biology and Biotechnology.

5. Webinar on Bayesian Inference

Bayesian inference is a powerful statistical framework used in advanced data analytics. It allows us to update our beliefs about a parameter or hypothesis based on new evidence, incorporating prior knowledge and data livelihood. By combing prior information with observed data. Bayesian inference provides a coherent way to quantify uncertainty and make informed decisions . A live webinar was organised by the Department of Data Analytics on 18-1-2023. The session was handled by Dr. E S Jeevanand, Professor Department of Mathematics . UC college Aluva.

1. MG University Inter-Collegiate Aquatics Championship

MG University Inter-Collegiate Aquatics Championship was held at Mar Athanasius College Stadium Swimming Pool, Kothamangalam on 12-13 October 2022. 122 participants from various colleges competed in the event.

2. MG University Inter-Collegiate North Zone Football Championship

MG University Inter-Collegiate North Zone Football Championship was held at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam on 14-18 November 2022.

3. MG University Inter-Collegiate North Zone Cricket Championship

MG University Inter-Collegiate North Zone Cricket Championship was held at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam on December 12-19, 2022. There were 236 participants from various colleges.

Academic Year 2022-2023

1. Onam Celebration


As part of annual Onam celebrations, Mar Athanasius College organized different cultural programmes including inter- departmental flower carpet competition, classical dance fest and ethnic show on 2nd September 2022.

2. Voice of MAC (Arts Club & College Union)

The arts club and college union of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organized a talent show, ‘Voice of MAC’ on 15 March 2023. Students from various departments participated in the programme.

1. Elocution Competition (PG & Research Department of Economics)

PG & Research Department of Economics of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) conducted an inter-departmental Elocution Competition for undergraduate students on 04 June 2021. The topic of the competition was “Think Green”. 15 students from various departments participated in the competition.

2. Reading Challenge (Departments of Microbiology, Biotechnology & Biochemistry)

As a part of celebration of National reading day, Departments of Microbiology, Biotechnology & Biochemistry Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) conducted a reading challenge for the students on 19 June 2021. 

3. PAGE-A-VU – A competition to Explore Books (PG & Research Department of Economics, 21/06/2021)

On observing National reading day, PG & Research Department of Economics of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) conducted PAGE-A-VU – Cognition and Gaiety with Books on 21 June 2021. The competition was meant to explore books.

1. Seminar on Wetlands, Supporting Life, Sustainable Livelihood (Department of Botany, 09/02/2023)

Department of Botany, Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous) organized a seminar on Wetlands in connection with World Wetlands Day on 9 February 2023. Dr. M.G Sanilkumar, Department of Botany, SNM College, Maliankara was the resource person.

2. International Conference on Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM 23)

An international conference on Science and Technology of Advanced Materials was jointly organized by the science departments of the college on April 18-20, 2023. Eminent scientists and researchers from all over the world participated. Faculties, scholars and students presented their papers in the oral presentation session.

Technical fest 2022

1. Webinar on Human Rights (Department of Chemistry, 28-29/10/2022)

A webinar on human rights was organized by the Department of Chemistry for Under-Graduate students of the department. The talk was led by Ms. Veena Roshan, National Law University, Jabalpur. The programme was funded under the DBT-STAR College scheme. The programme was screened online at M P Varghese Seminar Hall.

2. College Level Anti-Drug Quiz (NSS & Anti-Narcotic Cell, 11/10/2022)

As part of the Anti-Drug Campaign, National Service Scheme & Anti-Narcotic Cell of Mar Athanasius college (Autonomous) conducted an inter-departmental anti drug quiz competition at the college Students’ Centre on 11 October 2022. Ms. Diya Baby (II BA Economics) & Ms. Drishya Sunil (I BSc Mathematics) won first and second prizes respectively.
