Postgraduate Department of Biochemistry

The department of Biochemistry was established in the year 2005. The department offers the post-graduate course in Biochemistry (Self-financing). Biochemistry deals with the chemistry of life, about the principles governing the interactions of individual molecules, and how those same principles apply at the scale of cells and living organisms. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad understanding across multiple disciplines in Bioscience during the first year. The courses are offered in collaboration with the Departments of Biotechnology and Microbiology. The second year of the programme deals with more advanced study of Biochemistry.

Provide a strong foundation in biochemistry principles through hands on laboratory experiments and to explore molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes by interdisciplinary approaches and to translate discoveries into practical solutions for health care,agriculture and industry.

Biochemistry being an interdisciplinary discipline can be pursued by both Life science graduates as well as Chemistry graduates. Our department has developed a value oriented, quality learning environment with the help of dedicated and enthusiastic teaching staff and lab technicians. The faculty is actively engaged in research in various fields such as Phytochemistry, Isolation and characterisation of bioactive compounds from bacteria, fungus and plants; Green synthesis, Characterization of nanoparticles and their biological activity; Isolation and characterization of various enzymes from microbes , plants and animals. The department has organised UGC, DBT, RUSA and KSCSTE sponsored International and National seminars and workshops. The department has always been committed to sustain excellence in its academic and co-curricular activities.
