Undergraduate Department of Actuarial Science
The Department of Actuarial Science at Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), Kothamangalam, established in 2012, has been a pioneer in actuarial education in Kerala, with the distinction of being the first college in the state to offer a postgraduate programme in Actuarial Science. Continuing this legacy, the department introduced an aided undergraduate programme in Actuarial Science in the academic year 2026–27, becoming the first college in Kerala to offer an aided undergraduate programme in this specialised discipline.
The four-year B.Sc. Actuarial Science (Honours) programme offers a comprehensive foundation in actuarial principles, quantitative methods, and financial risk assessment. Students can earn a B.Sc. degree upon completing the first three years and a B.Sc.
degree (Honours with Research) upon completing the fourth year, subject to the prescribed academic requirements. The curriculum integrates core subjects such as Actuarial Mathematics, Actuarial Statistics, Contingencies, Risk Modelling, Business Economics, and Business Finance with emerging areas such as Actuarial Data Analytics and Machine Learning. With specialisations in Life and General Insurance Practices and Actuarial Data Analytics, the programme emphasises industry relevance, analytical competence, and application-oriented learning to prepare students for evolving opportunities in the actuarial and financial sectors.
