Postgraduate Department of Microbiology

The department offers the self financing post-graduate course in Microbiology, the field of study of living organisms of microscopic size. The department of Microbiology was established in the year 2002. It gives the students knowledge about identification of bacteria, fungi, algae protozoa and virus. The students can gain information about various fields like medical microbiology, aquatic microbiology, agricultural, environmental and soil microbiology, immunology, food microbiology, industrial microbiology etc. The department in association with departments of Biotechnology and Biochemistry offers extensive research in various fields like agricultural microbiology, synthesis and characterisation of bioactive compounds from bacteria, fungus and plants; aquatic microbiology, environmental microbiology etc. The department has conducted UGC, DBT, RUSA and KSCSTE sponsored international and national seminars and workshops.

We also provide HACCP training programme in association with CIFT, Cochin which help them to get jobs in food quality checking industries. We are also assisting M.Sc. and B.Sc. student projects. The department has always been committed to sustain excellence in its academic and co-curricular activities.

University Ranks
The students of the department have secured several university ranks in the past years. The department has bagged 15 ranks in the top three Ranks of M.G University.

HOD’s Desk

Hello and welcome to Department of Microbiology. Our department developed a value oriented, quality learning environment with the help of dedicated and enthusiastic teaching staff and lab technicians. Here the students can feel secure and comfortable. In my experience, happy and joyful students make more constructive use of their time and are more co-operative with teachers. “Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times”. Set your goals high and always dream big.
