Elin Michael-ICDS Supervisor, Department of Women and Child Development, Kanjirapilly
With the grace of God, my journey at MA College spanned from 2010 to 2013, marking a truly golden era. During this time, I enrolled in the Department of Sociology at Mar Athanasius College, navigating through challenging circumstances to successfully complete my undergraduate education. Despite facing adversity, my unyielding passion for sociology propelled me to attain my degree, and the indispensable support, affection, and profound knowledge from my dedicated teachers played a crucial role.
Beyond the academic curriculum, the college provided opportunities for excellence in NSS, NCC, arts, and sports. Personally, I achieved the NCC 'C Level Certificate' and secured the first "A" grade in Malayalam Essay Writing at 'ULVARA' during Mahatma Gandhi University Kalolsavam. The leadership of Valsamma Miss, Dr. Mudula Venu Gopal, and Diana Mathews in the Sociology Department was instrumental, offering a positive outlook and garnering much appreciation. My time at this college made me realize the infinite possibilities within sociology, and the teachers actively engaged us in conferences organized by the Kerala Sociological Service Society and at the academic level. Valuable projects under the guidance of Dr. Mridula Venugopal further enriched my learning experience.
After graduating in 2013 with commendable results, I pursued post-graduation in Sociology at CMS College Kottayam, securing admission in the first allotment. Subsequently, I successfully completed the course and passed the SET exam on the first attempt in the subject of International Science.
Being a sociology student at Mar Athanasius College brought numerous personal achievements, for which I am deeply indebted to my esteemed teachers. This experience also greatly influenced my B.Ed studies. Since 2015, I have had the privilege of serving as a higher secondary teacher at the Kerala State Literacy Mission and as a sociology lecturer at the School of Medical Education under the Kerala University of Health and Science.
With sociology as my guiding subject, I achieved notable rankings in the HSST Sociology, ICDS Supervisor, and Child Development Scheme Officer (Gazetted) exams conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission. Presently, I am serving as an ICDS Supervisor in the Women and Child Development Department of the Kerala Government, contributing to public service.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Heads of the Department of Sociology and our beloved MA College for laying the foundation for meaningful service. Before contemplating the potential achievements studying sociology can bring to society, I want to emphasize that my life has been illuminated and enriched solely because of my engagement with sociology. May we effectively utilize our perspectives to bring about positive changes in society.
