Profile

Dr. Tijo Cherian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, Kerala. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Pondicherry University and has extensive academic, research, and project experience spanning microbiology, marine biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, environmental biotechnology, aquaculture, biomass valorization, AMR, and sustainable bioprocessing. His research focuses on microbial biotechnology, marine microbial diversity, green nanotechnology, antimicrobial resistance, bioremediation, bioactive compounds, environmental sustainability, and nanomaterial synthesis for biomedical and environmental applications. His interdisciplinary research integrates microbiology, biotechnology, environmental sciences, and nanotechnology to develop sustainable solutions for contemporary environmental and public health challenges. He has accumulated over eight years of research experience and has contributed significantly to scientific advancement through an impressive publication record comprising more than 60 scholarly works, including international journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations. His research findings have been published in reputed international journals and academic publishers such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, ACS Publications, De Gruyter, and MDPI. He has teaching experience of more than 5 years in various UG and PG colleges. He also worked as Young Professional-II under the All India Network Project on Fish Health (AINP-FH) at ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai. His research contributions encompass marine microbial bioactive compounds, nanoparticle synthesis, aquaculture health management, environmental remediation, and bioresource valorization. He is actively engaged in teaching graduate and postgraduate courses, curriculum development, student mentoring, and research supervision. He has served as a syllabus committee member for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) of Mahatma Gandhi University and has contributed extensively to academic quality enhancement initiatives. An active member of the global scientific community, he serves as a reviewer for numerous high-impact international journals published by Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Cell Press, and Frontiers. His academic excellence has been recognized through several honors, including the Best Microbiologist Award, Young Researcher Award, Excellence in Research Award, and Budding Scientist Award. His current research interests include microbial biotechnology, green nanomaterials, environmental microbiology, aquaculture health, antimicrobial resistance, waste valorization, bioenergy, and sustainable technologies for environmental protection.
